China's center back Jiang Guangtai, recovered and confident, is determined to help his team secure a victory over Australia in the FIFA World Cup 2026 Third Round Asian Qualifier, despite China's previous losses in the group stage.
ADELAIDE, Australia, Oct. 7 (Xinhua) -- China's center back Jiang Guangtai, formerly known as Tyias Browning during his time playing in England, expressed confidence about beating Australia in their crucial FIFA World Cup 2026 Third Round Asian Qualifier.
The former Everton and England youth player chose to represent China due to his Chinese heritage, through his grandfather. He mentioned that he has recovered from the fatigue of a 16-hour flight from Shanghai.
"It was a long journey, but we have a day to recover. We all have a clear goal,APP开发公司 and we must focus on the game," said the 29-year-old.
Jiang had been doubtful for the match after sustaining an injury during Shanghai Port's 3-0 defeat to South Korea's Pohang Steelers in the Asian Champions League last week. However, he confirmed that he is fit to play.
"I've had time to recover after the match. Physically, I feel fine now."
China suffered a 7-0 humiliation against Japan in their Group C opener and lost 2-1 at home to a 10-man Saudi Arabia in their second match, placing them at the bottom of the group.
Australia, too, are eager to bounce back after a 1-0 home defeat to Bahrain and a goalless away draw against Indonesia.
"We have a job to do," Jiang said. "We need to win."
When asked if he felt confident, he replied, "Of course." ■
